Separating Same-Sex Marriage Fact From Fiction

Earlier, Dirigo Blue posted part of a Bangor Daily News editorial on Question 1.  The post contained a piece of the Op/Ed which addressed the claim by Yes on 1 that gay marriage will be forced to be taught to children in Maine schools if the people’s veto fails.  Those claims are false, as the Op/Ed points out.  You can read the excerpt from Dirigo Blue here.  The Op/Ed goes on to question more of the validity of the Yes on 1 claims.  It is important here to separate fact from speculations and outright falsehoods.  The remainder of Op/Ed will appear after the cut.  Continue reading

No On 1 Campaign Counters “Replica” of Ad Used for Prop 8

It seems like I write one of these daily, but No On 1/Protect Maine Equality has again had to refute false claims made in an ad released by Yes On 1.  I assume this ad that was posted on Stand For Marriage Maine today is the one they reference in this release.  Don’t be fooled by fear.  Read No On 1′s reply below.  Be an active involved parent and you never have to be afraid of what is going on in your child’s education. Legal Memorandum Challenges Yes On 1 Claims

The No On 1/Protect Maine Equality has released a challenge to the “Laycock Letter” use in the recent Yes On 1 campaigns.   You can read the Laycock letter here (pdf warning)

The NO on 1/Protect Maine Equality campaign today slammed the latest attempt by the Yes campaign to distract voters from the real issues surrounding Question 1.  On Thursday, the Yes campaign produced — for the first time — a letter by University of Michigan law professor Douglas Laycock to Gov. John Baldacci urging him not to sign the bill unless it contained certain provisions Laycock claimed would address religious liberty. Continue reading
