Plumber Watch ’09 UPDATE

Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in. I think I have become addicted to the steady self-destruction of Joe the Plumber. I found a new little nugget from Joe Tuesday evening. It’s so sad I’ve just got to post the whole thing.

“You don’t need to see what’s happening every day, that’s my personal opinion, you don’t have to share it. But, you know, okay, you don’t have to see, you know, 800 dead, 801 dead. It’s like they drill that in your head. … They want you to sit there saying there are so many people dying. You know these are large, these are numbers, you know I don’t want to take away from that. Let me, uh, think about how to say that again. Just essentially, they keep drilling it into your head, newscast after newscast after newscast.

I think the military should decide what information to give the media and then the media can release it to the public. I don’t believe they need to be in the front lines with soldiers, I don’t believe they need to, uh, you know, be bothering the military for information or for access to certain areas.”

Yes Joe, it is so horrible that we remind the American public that war has actual consequences. That those numbers are people who wont be able to do the Israeli or Palestinian equivalent of eating chips and watching NASCAR all day. They wont be able to practice their jobs illegally either. I’m sorry everyone. These numbers were real people. I don’t want to tarnish the lives of people I never even saw by relating them to a village idiot that I have unfortunately heard far too much from.

I wont even begin to comment on the second piece. It is just too idiot and far too flawed. I think I may gnaw my fingers off from frustration with its unbelievable…something. See, I am already at a loss for words to describe the hideous things that comment makes me feel.

Here’s a link to the whole video. Caution, you do have to register with PajamasTV in order to view the video. I’m not sure anyone in their right mind wants their name associated with the organization anymore. Sign up at your own risk!

Plumber Watch ’09

In his unending quest for unbiased reporting, our man in the Holy Land seeks answers to the questions Americans need to know. Here is a transcript of Joe interviewing an Israeli reporter.

JOE: The story here is people are being killed and the media’s slanting it and trying to make it Hamas is, uh, as far as, that Israel’s being bad. Do you believe Israel is bad?

REPORTER: Do I believe it?

JOE: Yeah, do you?!

REPORTER: I’m Israeli, so…

JOE: So answer the question!

REPORTER: No, I don’t think Israel is bad.

JOE: Do you think Israel has every right to protect itself?

REPORTER: Yeah.

[pause]

JOE: You do?!

REPORTER: Yeah.

JOE: Have you said that on air?

REPORTER: I’m just a reporter.

[sarcasm]I am so glad that we have someone that will go to anything length to get answers. That is some first rate reporting. Clips of this will be analyzed by future journalism students in order to disseminate the essence of Joe’s reporting genius. Oh they will try, but they will fail. There will only ever be one Joe the Plumber their instructor will say. You can only hope to be a faint shadow of He Who Saved Journalism.[/sarcasm]

The Plumber Has Landed

Important update!

Joe the Plumber has touched down in Israel. Joe immediately went to work telling the Israeli news networks how they should be reporting.

“You should be ashamed of yourself,” he told foreign reporters, “You should be patriotic, protect your family and children, not report like you have been doing for the past two weeks since this war has started,” he said. (Jerusalem Post)

Come on Israel! Our morbid fascination can report on your news in a patriotic way, which you haven’t been able do to since 1948. Geesh.

Joe then hit Israeli reporters with this gem of foreign policy: “I know if I were a citizen here, I’d be damned upset.” He described himself as a “peaceloving man,” but added, “when someone hits me, I’m going to unload on the boy. And if the rest of the world doesn’t understand that, then I’m sorry.” (Jerusalem Post) Well, I’ve heard even Kissinger was floored by Joe’s keen strategic genius.

Just when I thought we were going to get a little respect from the world community again. I would laugh if it weren’t so tragic.
