No On 1/Protect Maine Equality Ads Show Personal Side of Gay Marriage

No on 1/Protect Maine Equality has released two ads today focusing on stories from real Maine families.  I saw one of those ads, featuring Bill Whitten this morning while I was fixing breakfast for my oldest daughter.  It takes a lot of courage to do what Bill, and Sam from the other ad did.  As a father of two young girls I have a lot of respect for Bill.  It isn’t easy to stand up for your family when the opposition is so fierce.

Both of the ads put an important human face to the issue.  The vote on same-sex marriage isn’t about some nondescript entity pushing an agenda.  This is about families, individuals who show love and devotion to each other.  People the same as you or I.  “In our ads, Maine people speak out for marriage equality and what it means to them and their families,” said Jesse Connolly, Campaign Manager of NO on 1.  “They talk about how marriage strengthens families, protects children and upholds traditional Maine values of fairness, equality and personal freedom.”

You can view Bill’s ad and Sam’s ad at No on 1/Protect Maine Equality.
